This Privacy Policy explains how KaraoBe (“KaraoBe,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and protects information when you use our karaoke web application and related services (the “Service”). By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here.

Information we collect

Account and session data

You can use KaraoBe anonymously — we create a pseudonymous session identifier stored in a first-party, HttpOnly cookie so your projects stay attached to your device. If you create an account, we store your email address and a securely hashed (never plaintext) password.

Content you provide

When you submit a link or upload audio you are authorized to use, we process it to produce karaoke assets — separated instrumental and guide-vocal stems, synchronized lyrics, and related metadata. We store these derived assets and any lyric edits you make so you can return to your projects.

Microphone audio

Pitch scoring runs entirely in your browser; your microphone audio is analyzed on your device and is not transmitted to our servers. A performance recording is uploaded and stored only if you explicitly choose to save or share one.

Usage, device, and security data

To operate the Service reliably and prevent abuse, we record technical information such as IP address, browser and device characteristics, request timestamps, rate-limit counters, and audit logs of security-relevant actions.

Cookies

We use a single essential cookie to keep you signed in to your session. We do not use third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. Because our cookie is strictly necessary to provide the Service, it does not require consent under most cookie laws.

How we use information

• To provide, maintain, and improve the Service and your projects.
• To enforce usage limits and keep the platform secure and free from abuse.
• To respond to your requests and provide support.
• To comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms.

Legal bases (EEA/UK users)

Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we process your information to perform our contract with you (providing the Service), for our legitimate interests (security, abuse prevention, and improvement), to comply with legal obligations, and — for saving microphone recordings — on the basis of your consent, which you may withdraw at any time.

How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with:

• Service providers who host our infrastructure, store objects, and provide the compute used for audio separation and alignment, acting on our instructions under confidentiality obligations.
• Legal and safety recipients when required by law, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of KaraoBe, our users, or the public.
• A successor in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this Policy.

How we protect and store data

Uploaded media and derived stems are private by default and served only through short-lived, signed links. Data is encrypted in transit. We apply access controls and retain only what we need to run the Service.

Data retention

Projects created in an anonymous session are automatically deleted after a retention window (currently 72 hours). Content in a registered account is kept until you delete it or close your account. Security and audit logs may be retained longer where necessary to protect the Service or meet legal requirements. You can delete your projects at any time from your dashboard.

Your rights and choices

Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can exercise these rights — or withdraw consent for saved recordings — by deleting content in the app or contacting us at [email protected]. We will respond within the timeframes required by applicable law.

International transfers

We may process and store information in countries other than your own. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for such transfers.

Children’s privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA), and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will revise the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice.
